>Description: myCOhabitat is the experimental prototype community for a new take on emergent bio-centric architecture. It utilizes mycelium, the fungal stage of mushroom which is the food network for our entire ecosystem, as its primary building material. Mycelium, a recently heavily studied substance from the lense of the architects, is dissected at this level for the first time aided via artificial intelligence neural networks. Proposed at the building scale.

The framework of this project is threefold: physical, artificial, and developmental. A series of experiments are conducted to discover the possibilities of mycelium as a building material that sets the standard for bio-centric architecture. Through their investigations the team aims to ground this experimental approach in the socio-economic realm in a city at the verge of a climate crisis.

The team seeks to have a hands on approach where their hypothesis could be put to test. In doing so, the project gains a unique layer which is research driven. Throughout the course of the semester, in this spirit of research, the team works towards discovering unconventional means to put a building together. Such means have no pre-encoded bias towards how these processees take place now- in a reality in which we’ve lost touch with the natural treasures our world has to offer.
